Which PHP version should Joomla use?

Why does the website show a blank page after changing PHP?
A fatal PHP error is probably occurring while error display is disabled. The server log usually identifies the incompatible file or extension.
Can you fix an old extension for PHP 8?
Often yes, but the effort depends on the size and quality of the code. Severely outdated or insecure extensions may be better replaced.
Can I simply return to the old PHP version?
